PPM+ in the US

Postby albson on Wed Jun 09, 2010 4:54 pm

Hi - let me preface this question by saying that I am not an audio engineer - but an editor - so please forgive my ignorance.

Is PPM a good tool to use to monitor output levels in the US? I understand it was primarily created for the UK and Europe. If yes - what is the best way to set it up for that purpose?

If it is not a good tool for the US - can you recommend a comparable tool for US standards that will work with FCP/Soundtrack Pro.

Best Regards

Hi,

thank you for your post and welcome to the forum.

I guess there are several different standards related to radio and television broadcast etc. What is your question exactly related to ? If you give me some more info I can check what setting would be best for your purpose.

From what I´ve read VU meters are used most common in the US, configured with -20dbFs at 0 VU. PPMulator has a VU meter included.

Thanks,
Martin

Sorry must apologize for the typo.I must have accidently clicked on the submit button... :? PPM+ has NO VU meter.
What I finally wanted to write was:
PPMulator hast no VU meter included. VU metering behaviour can somehow tried to be"simulated" by changing the different settings from PPM+, like integration time (to 300ms), fallback time etc. Anyway, display scaling can not be changed to VU scale.

Thanks Christo for pointing this out.
